Top Pet Birds

People new to keeping birds will find the common Parakeet or Budgerigar (Budgies for short) to be a wonderful pet. These birds, which children also love, come in various colors and need less space and maintenance compared to other bigger birds. Despite their small size, the parakeet is very intelligent that it can learn a word or two. It can live to as long as 12 to 14 years.
Lovebirds are one of the smallest known species of parrot. But even though they are tiny (at only 6 inches long), they are intelligent although quiet most of the time. They make good companions for people living in apartments or condominiums and can live up to 20 years.
The cockatiels are medium-sized birds that belong to the parrot family. These birds from Australia are popular for their ability to whistle and sing and even talk. They tend to mimic sounds like a telephone ringing. With a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years, the cockatiels come in so many color combinations.
Other popular pet birds are the finches and canaries measuring at five inches or less. Being small birds, they require very little space unlike other birds. These known softbills or waxbills pay only little attention to humans and can live up to 10 years.
