Hamsters and Mice

Hamsters and mice make great pets, too. These small pets usually find homes in households with small children.

Hamsters are relatives of rats because they belong to the rodent family. They share the common characteristic of having large incisor teeth that continue to grow and require them to gnaw. There are many species of hamsters around the world and most thrive in semi-desert areas. Being nocturnal mammals, they sleep during hot days and are awake in the cool evenings. They have a strong sense of smell and hearing to compensate for their poor eyesight.

Mice, on the other hand, have more than 40 varieties available but are rarely found in pet shops being less popular pets than the rabbits or guinea pigs. But mice make nice pets as they need very little space and very cheap to feed. They can even wash themselves and will just sit on your hand.
