Retrievers

Full bred dogs are more popular as pets. The retriever tops the American Kennel Club’s list of full bred dogs that are in high demand. It is actually a gun dog that retrieves game for a hunter thus, its name “retriever.” This type of dog was originally bred to retrieve birds or other prey and bring them back to the hunter without any damage. 

Retrievers are large-sized dogs that have easy going and friendly temperaments and are gentle with children. Their large size might often intimidate people but these dogs are actually friendly to all.

Retrievers are of two types – the golden retrievers and the Labrador retrievers.
The golden retriever is a powerful and active dog, mainly because it a hunting dog. It has a confident and alert personality with great balance and gait. Males are normally taller than females. They come in various shades of gold with thick and water-resistant undercoat that may be straight or wavy.

The Labrador retriever is very friendly, intelligent and full of energy. They like to be praised and given attention. Being originally bred for retrieving in water areas, the “lab” is known to enjoy water.
