Rottweilers

They are the large and robust, black dog breed. Originally from Germany, the rottweiler is usually black with tan or mahogany marks on the cheeks, chest, legs and eyebrows. Their chest show two tan-colored inverted triangles. They also have waterproof undercoat and a coarse top coat. You should know a pure breed through its eyes which must be dark brown.

Another distinct feature of the rottweiler is its very short tail. The bobbed tail is actually not natural because like other dogs, they normally have long tails. There are two versions of this “tail” story. One is that the tails were cut to avoid breakage and infection when the tail is covered with mud coming from pastures and livestock. The other story is that the rottweiler’s tail was bobbed to avoid a so-called “tail tax.”

Today, dog owners in the U.S. have their rottweiler’s tail cut immediately after the puppy’s birth for aesthetic reasons. This practice, however, is not allowed in the European Union countries.
